Vijay Becomes Tamil Nadu Chief Minister After Historic TVK Victory

C. Joseph Vijay, actor-turned-politician, swore in as Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister on Saturday. It was a historic political shift for the state, plain and simple. The ceremony went down at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, packed with senior political leaders, a gaggle of celebrities, and, of course, thousands of his supporters.

Vijay’s own party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), swept to a landmark victory under his leadership. This win really broke the decades-long hold of the DMK and AIADMK on Tamil Nadu politics. Most folks are calling it one of the biggest political upsets we've seen in the state in ages.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar swore in Vijay and his new cabinet, who then pledged their oath of office and secrecy. After the ceremony wrapped, a crowd of national leaders and film folks chimed in with congratulations for the new Chief Minister.

Vijay’s first speech laid out a vision for a "new era of secularism, development, and social justice" across Tamil Nadu. He’s zeroing in on jobs, education, women's safety, and looking after the younger generation.

Right after settling into his new role, Vijay reportedly put his signature on some pretty important documents. These were mostly about welfare programs. One, in particular, promises 200 units of free electricity to households that qualify.

The task force for women's safety is getting put together. We're also going to beef up anti-drug enforcement. And wow, TVK's huge win set off celebrations all over Tamil Nadu. You saw supporters packing party offices and public spots. Political watchers are saying Vijay's pull with young folks and first-time voters really sealed the deal for their success.
